Coach Carter - Movie Review

When I first saw this movie on the shelves of 'Blockbuster', (a video rental store, for those who are unfamiliar with the place) I thought I'd be wasting my money on yet another movie depicting the role of one progressive man who changes the lives of his team. Last Saturday my room mate went to return the movies we rented previously (Constantine and Head of State) and rent new a new one and picked up Coach Carter. I have to say that even thought the movie turned out to be exactly as I had imagined, it was possibly one of the most awe-inspiring movies I've seen in recent times. Samuel Jackson (Kim Carter) plays the role of a retail store owner who once graduated from Richmond high. He has returned to the school to take up the challenge of trimming and coaching an extremely undisciplined, yet talented - Richmond high basketball team. As expected, he faces verbal abuse as soon as he steps in, but he manages to get them under control in no time. The entire movie shows how coach Carter turns a handful of unruly, academically unsound teenagers in to educated, and athletic young men. I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone.

Memorable movie quote:

Coach Ken Carter: What is your deepest fear?

Timo Cruz (Basketball player on the Richmond High team): Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Yeah, that's what they say. You gotta read between the lines :P

Go to http://www.blockbuster.com and click on the "End of Late Fee Terms". What a hoax! They've been sued now for false and misleading advertisement. Mega-corporations suck.

Thank you!

I was really looking for that quote... It is really one of a kind that changes our way to see the world.
