King Fahd - Tribute
King Fahd of Saudi Arabia was pronounced dead on the 2nd of August, 2005. He was aged 83 and had been ruling the Kingdom for nearly 23 years. His eldest son, crown prince Abdullah will replace him as the new king. It is now up to King Abdullah to determine what course of action he must take in order to restore order in a nation that is slowly, but steadily showing signs of internal rebellion. For nearly a decade now, the average Saudi has been discontent with the state of affairs of the nation.
Many Saudis view the ambivalent relationship between King Fahd and the Bush family with suspicion, but most chose to remain silent. However, that has changed drastically over the past year or two. There have been regular incidents of terrorism within the kingdom and there have been widespread rumors that religious clerics around the country are preaching hatred against the ruling family. King Abdullah will have to take swift measures in terms of economic, domestic and foreign policies in order to gain the trust of his own people as well as leaders of other countries.
