Google leads the way

Until yesterday, after reading an article on BBC's website, I hadn't realized how dependent (and grateful) I was on the services Google provides us. However, it also made me realize that nearly every aspect of my actions over the internet are surrounded by Google. That is not to say that is necessarily a bad thing, but why do I, or millions of Google fans not prefer to use other search engines such as MSN, A9, Yahoo, Altavista, Ask.com, etc?
